Receiving an HIV diagnosis can be overwhelming, but support is available. One of the first steps is connecting with a doctor who specialises in HIV care so you can discuss treatment options. Many people also find it helpful to speak with a counsellor or connect with others living with HIV through peer support.

There is currently no cure for HIV, but modern HIV treatment is simple, safe and highly effective. Starting treatment as early as possible helps protect your immune system and supports long-term health.

Yes. People living with HIV can enjoy healthy, fulfilling relationships and sex lives.

When someone is taking effective HIV treatment and maintains an undetectable viral load, they cannot pass HIV on through sex. This is known as U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable).

Telling other people about your HIV status is a personal decision. Some people choose to tell partners, family or close friends straight away, while others prefer to wait until they feel ready.

It can help to think about who will support you and when disclosure feels right.
