Our Approach
At The Centre Clinic, you don't have to explain who you are before you get care. Our GPs and nurse practitioners already understand the health needs of LGBTIQA+ people and people living with HIV, so there's no assumptions to correct and no history to justify.
Our services
Book an appointment and take charge of your health.
General Care
Our LGBTIQA+ affirmative and friendly general practice services include health assessments, hormone and contraceptive injections, wound care, ECGs, bloods, and vaccinations (including for COVID-19 and mpox). Our practitioners can also create and review plans for chronic condition management and mental health treatment, prescribe PEP and PrEP, and link you to other LGBTIQA+ friendly allied health services (dentists, psychologists, dieticians, physiotherapists, and other specialists).
Specialist Care for PLHIV
Our practitioners are also equipped to provide specialist medical care for people living with HIV, including monitoring and anti-retroviral treatments. This service is available to all people living with HIV, regardless of identity or orientation.
Sexual Health
Testing and treatment for STIs and bloodborne viruses, such as HIV and Hepatitis A, B, and C. We also offer vaccinations against both Hepatitis A and B.
Fees and billing
The Centre Clinic uses a mixed billing model for General Practitioner and Nurse Practitioner consultations. We bulk bill all patients with current, Australian-issued:
- Health Care Concession Cards
- Low Income Concession Cards
- Disability Pension Cards
- Eligible DVA cards
- Commonwealth Senior Health Cards
- Full-time student cards (under the age of 25 years)
- Children under the age of 16 years
All other patients will be charged a private fee for consultations.
General Practitioners:
Nurse Practitioners:
Pathology fees are charged by the pathology lab, and your doctor can advise you of the costs prior to the collection. We accept card payments for consultations and for pathology fees. All fees are payable on the day of your visit.
The Centre Clinic sees patients on an appointment basis.
- Our standard appointments are 20 minutes long. All new patients are booked in for a long appointment (40mins) for their first visit. Appointments can be face-to-face, by telephone, or via tele-video.
- Emergencies presenting to the clinic will be seen as a priority, and our staff will try to contact you if there is any unforeseen delay or if your GP has been called away.
- If you require an interpreter service (a language other than English or services for hearing-impaired clients), these can be organised by reception at the time of booking.
Patient Information
- Arrive 10 minutes early to avoid rescheduling.
- Ensure your contact details are current at every visit.
- Bring concession/student cards if applicable for bulk billing.
After-hours care
If you need urgent medical care outside our opening hours, call DoctorDoctor on 13 26 60 or Nurse-on-Call on 1300 60 60 24 for free health advice from a registered nurse. In an emergency, call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Contacting your clinician
During opening hours, you can call the clinic to speak with your clinician. If they are unavailable, reception will take a message. You can also email clinicreception@thorneharbour.org; however, email is not a secure way to send personal health information.
If you cannot attend the clinic because of your condition and live within 5 km, your doctor may be able to arrange a home visit.
Test results
Most pathology results are available within 10 business days. Your clinician will review your results and discuss them with you during an appointment where needed.
Prescriptions and referrals
To provide safe care, appointments are required for most prescriptions, referrals and pathology results. Repeat prescriptions requested by phone are provided at your doctor's discretion and may incur a fee. Referrals to other healthcare providers may also involve additional costs.
Our locations
We are located in the Pride Centre at 79-81 Fitzroy Street in St Kilda. Free 3-hour parking is available in the car park next to the Centre on Jackson Street.
Accessibility
Our clinic is wheelchair accessible and has electric height-adjustable examination beds. Please let reception know when booking if you require disability access. When you arrive, call the clinic and reception will operate the assisted chairlift.
Your privacy
Your medical information is kept confidential and secure. We only share your information with your consent or where required by law. You can request access to your medical record at any time. Our services comply with Australian and Victorian privacy laws.
